I tried Shoyeido's Baika-ju based on a review I read on the Olfactory Rescue Service blog. In the blog the poster described Baika-ju as a subtle floral - the floral incense that she burns the most. That intrigued me so I bought a box. While I personally would not describe this as a floral, it is soft and subtle with a sweetness that makes me think of eating crème brûlée next to a fireplace or maybe toasting marshmallows over that same fireplace. There is a cozy sweetness to this that is nice and is growing on me more and more. It's more of a background incense, something that you burn when you don't want to be too distracted. The sweetness to this reminds me of Shoyeido's Amethyst, Hope, Abundance and Honoka, except that I find Baika-ju to be the most subtle and it doesn't have any bit of spicyness/bitterness to it, which I like.

This was the first Japanese floral incense I tried, and with my previous experience in Indian florals I was a little dubious, but I loved it at first sniff.

Baika-Ju is a fairly rich and sweet incense but never cloying, with hints of benzoin and something that resembles cinnamon incense (not cinnamon in its unlit form necessarily). It has a bit of something slightly musky, but not perfumy and I wouldn't describe it as girly: like all excellent incense, it's gender-neutral.
